We have been given the unique opportunity to exhibit an important collection of paintings by the artist, on loan from the Theodore Zimmerman Foundation and the family of the painter. This is the first virtual on-line site to display a collection and exposition of Theo's works for public viewing. His works are relatively scarce as his total life's 'oeuvre' was quite low due to his insistence on retaining only works of quality, and we have been very fortunate to have a few in the galleries.

Favorite places to paint
The artists lovely drawings of scenes of the coast of Brittany and the Northern beaches of France, including Le Touquet, Trouville and Honfleur, were only a few of the places Theo. loved to paint . His now highly sought after paintings of Le Touquet, Trouville, and scenes of the many beaches of Normandy and Brittany where the artist created his stylized drawings in pastels of children playing in white dresses and hats, have been a collectors favourites for many years. Memorable drawings of Ireland and in the beautiful Channel Islands at Jersey, Guernsey and Sark. In the U.K. at St. Ives, Newlyn, Mousehole and Polperro in Cornwall, where he painted with other famous artists who were drawn to the areas special light and the artist's colony.

The painters quest to capture nature, whether in the intense light of the early morning at the Pyramids of Egypt, the beautiful buildings of Jerusalem, the early morning mists on the river Seine, or the colours of a glorious sunset of Venice. To capture on paper that fleeting and illusive atmospheric moment of nature only seen through the artist's eyes and the colours seen in a Venice sunset cannot be surpassed anywhere. ..Paintings

Paintings of Provence , the beaches of Le Touquet and Trouville, the harbor at Honfleur and many places on the coast of Brittany. The orange and lemon orchards and the excitement of the bullfights and local life of Spain, the lovely countryside of Italy and it's vineyards, and Greece with it's magnificent monuments and temples, also offered many a good subject. .
'Elongatism'
Theo. said: " I want to create a style of painting and drawing, that when anyone views one of my paintings from across a room, that person will immediately know that the artist Theodore Zimmerman painted it." The normal visual representation of a person in a photograph or portrait is obsolete, because our physical body changes every day of our lives as we journey through the aging process. I create in my paintings the eternal aura and ambiance of the soul which never changes." .L.

Watching Lowry work , and seeing his works as they progressed with their stylized stick like figures. Scenes from Britain and life of the 1930's with the depression, was a time of hardship and despair for the mill workers without employment. He specialized in pictures of the outcasts of society in Salford and the back to back terraced houses with grimy street scenes and children playing in the gutters depicting the poverty of the time. The artists paintings, full of colour, poetry and mysticism, are reminiscent of the best works by the painters Turner and Yeats. The style and color of these beautiful works, which are on a much larger scale than Theo.'s early beach scenes of family and children, are some of the finest works of the 20th century. A small selection of these beautiful works can be appreciated by collectors and art lovers in the new exhibition of late works by the President of the Academy shortly. |
